For real?!! You couldn't come up with a better example? The Amish are isolated, self sustaining, apolitical and not dependent on any taxpayer funded services. Today's immigrants DEMAND services, entitlements for their children and elderly immigrant parents, etc. Their religion is antithetical to the dominant religions in this country and they have zero desire to blend in to the American culture like previous immigrant groups. Seriously, how crowded do our big cities have to be populated for ppl like you to be satisfied?

That means that they are assimilating
What's more American that living on welfare?
In their country, they would have starved to death

I don't know but if something happened in this country and your family was starving, your home and business had been confiscated by a rebel group, and lives threatened how soon would you have your passport out?

A few things:
  • Most Hispanics are Roman Catholic - Muslims are a part of the immigrant population but are relatively small
  • Immigrants from Muslim countries back in the 70s were less religious than they are today
  • Under the Supreme Court decision Plyler v. Doe illegal immigrant children are entitled to education services
  • Some refugee groups assisted the U.S. in foreign policy (the Hmong in Laos are an example) and these groups are entitled to American welfare
  • The Hmong in California wanted to do the farming they did back home, but they couldn't acquire any land, and the Mexicans had all the farming done, so the only choice was to take welfare

Everyday I'm more amazed with Houston diversity and love it

In other cities, you see more segregation and areas where you can tell if it's rich or poor depending on the number whites or minorities.
I feel like Houston is different
Everywhere you go .... poor area or rich area, is diverse.

As a matter of fact, I'm always amazed at the number of black people that you see riding around in brand new pickup trucks.
I never saw that until I came to Houston.
