My thoughts exactly. I think some people take issue with the fact that it is a church that necessitates this. The reality is you have a large gathering of people, all trying to exit onto one road that sees fairly high volume, at essentially the intersection of an interstate and a major toll road.

Yea, I think police directing traffic is a good idea for everyone involved, including people also coming from the same direction as the church-goers who would also be stuck on a 2 lane road (Ransom Rd) attempting to turn onto 99.

And because it's just really not a big deal. That has always been done. There are some
Public venues that actually require a private party over a certain attendance number being held there to hire off duty police as security. I have found that when I reserve places for very large parties
What is this Toyota center you speak of? Is that some kind of PUBLIC arena? You do see the difference between a PUBLIC and a Private function don't you?

The Rockets isn't private? I can just go into a game?

Is the Rockets team owned by the city? I could have sworn it was owned by some billionaire.

Dude, they're both privately owned but both public places. One you have to pay to enter. The other is free. You can figure out which is which.

Hiring police to keep everyone fairly moving when there is a extraordinary burst of traffic the roads/signals were not designed for - - makes sense. Hard to argue event situations. Hiring the police to give your customer's blatant preference (no/minimal wait) over the drivers using a public right-of-way - - that is a problem.

So, when police were allowing a full crowd out of the Summit, no problem, but when the same amount of people are exiting what was the Summit, it is a problem?

Not sure I follow where you got that from.... It has nothing to do with where the people are coming from - - only the extraordinary volume (like an event). In contrast: when a rent-a-cop stops flowing traffic each time one or two people pull-up to exit a private lot.

i do think the issue in this thread would be that people are okay with anyone having police directing traffic as long as it's not a church.

Serious question, are you relatively new to Houston and not familiar with the Summit?
