This is what Surfside looks like as well. Both would be good places to go if you like the less congested beaches.

The pocket parks in Galveston are nice and Galveston has lots more to do than just the beach.
Sugar Land is much closer than Katy to HBU. You may want to look at 77042 or 77077 on Har.com for either buying or leasing.

Keep in mind, during Spring Break Surfside gets a little wild
I saw couple going behind a big pile of dirt to "have fun"

I know a lot of people are mentioning the 59 corridor based on your initial posts but have you thought about staying a little more in the city? North of I-10 inside the beltway wouldn't be a terrible commute to HBU and would be much closer to the city for sporting events.

Won't get acreage and the houses will be older but many are on good sized lots with established shade trees. This one is under contract but is representative of what you could get for that budget. 9703 Railton St, HOUSTON, TX 77080 - HAR.com

Some people will immediately put the schools down but I think they are decent and parent involvement has as much to do with child success as school funding and demographics.
