What type of bugs do they have in Galveston? How bad are they? Do you have to have someone come out and spray annually? Monthly? Weekly? I'm just trying to find all the out-of-the-ordinary costs (compared to CO) for living in Galveston.

Roaches, termites and other wood destroying insects are a problem as they are anywhere in the state. Roaches seem to be particularly well established in Galveston however. If you keep a clean house they will more than likely not be noticeable. Pest control will certainly not be one of your primary expenditures. If you are commuting from Galveston I would be far more concerned about your fuel bill.

More than likely, my husband will be working around NASA, and I will either stay at hoome or work part time on the island.. I know there are other places closer, but we want to be on the island. What are gasoline prices down there? Is there any sort of park and ride?

Gas is about $3.00-3.10 now and rising. Probably closer to $3.15 on the island. No park and ride that I know of from there. For now his commute will be an hour or more each way due to construction. Galveston will also have rush hour jams of its own. But it will get better in a year or two.

Is it faster to take IH-45 or Highway 146 to get to the NASA area?

I-45 all the way. Going 146 (or Hwy 3) will have a bunch of traffic lights and makes for a really long drive. BTDT.

Going from Seabrook to NASA is maybe 7-8 traffic lights by itself.

Roaches definitely. Keeping a pristine house helps, but I don't think eliminates 100%. Not sure if it is the humidity or what, but the roaches do seem to love life in Galveston. I was a Revenue Manager at two hotels in Galveston. Our rooms were, of course, cleaned daily plus deep-cleaned on a regular schedule. Despite this, we had our fair share of roaches, and they were ingenious in where they decided to live. I won't give too many specifics, but I will say they were found living inside alarm clocks more than once.

Also mosquitoes, but there's not much you would do at home for them. Especially if you live on the West End, you will hear the mosquito trucks on warm/hot nights.

I can't recall any park and ride from the island to Nasa area. I agree that I-45 is your better bet. You will still get stuck on it at times, but there are more lanes to spread out and not so many forced stops and starts.
