Some people are confused here. Alameda County is not where Tesla's HQ is. AC contains the Fremont plant and a couple of satellite offices. Santa Clara County (Palo Alto) is where the HQ is. The opening of a Texas plant is likely happening regardless of whether they stay HQed in the Bay Area. Texans are just seeing if they can bake AND eat their cake like the saying goes by receiving the HQ. If the Fremont plant closes then maybe that just means Nevada and Buffalo see more plant jobs in addition to Texas.

Elon was talking about the Fremont CA factory opening to fight Newsom's declaration as well as Alameda County orders regarding COVID-19. I didn't see any article saying he was going to be moving the HQ, just the manufacturing facility in Fremont. He doesn't have a beef with working from home, but the orders mean he can't produce Teslas. That's my understanding but if you have other links please post them.

Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.

Boutique steel fabricator in North Houston is building pedestrian bridges for a Colorado Springs development helping people to enjoy nature and help to increase Houston's economic diversity.

In a sweaty industrial complex on Houston’s north side, welders continued working on seams of a 265-foot steel structure in its final stages of fabrication: a pedestrian bridge that soon will become part of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs.

Wednesday was “fitting” day, when many of the crew at King Fabrication finally saw the pieces put together, stretched out from one end of the industrial assembly building into the outdoors. Final welding is being done on its joints before it’s cleaned up and painted, then loaded in several pieces onto special trailers that will drive it nearly 1,000 miles to its home in Colorado.
As a boutique steel fabrication operation, King gets a lot of unusual projects, but this one stands out.

“This is very much art,” said Ericah Thomas, as she sprinkled her conversation with descriptions of the software they had to learn, quality procedures they had to create, and the accommodations it took to handle something so large with sheets of steel 2 to 2½ inches thick.

Local Space exploration company signs new lease near the Johnson Space Center to give it room to expand it's size, it's horizons, and Greater Houston's Economic diversity.

Axiom Space signed a full floor lease in the Hercules II building in the Clear Lake area for relocation of its headquarters in August. The Houston-based company was seeking a modern office with room for growth near NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

In January, the company was awarded a contract by NASA to attach a commercial module to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s plan to open the station for commercial use. When the ISS is retired, the module with a research and manufacturing facility, a crew habitat and large-windowed Earth observatory, would be detached and operated as a commercial endeavor.

Derrell Curry and Noah Kruger of Savills assisted Axiom in finding an office that could be developed and modified as the project evolves and the workforce expands. The office at 1290 Hercules Ave. will have a combination of open areas and enclosed offices, lab and shop spaces.

Axiom has about 50 employees and aims to grow to 250 by the end of the year, according to Savills.

KBR also fell just one spot short of the Fortune 500, at 501. Up from 548 last year. Good to see their diversification in the military is keeping them afloat.

Galveston's American National Insurance is also making a run at entering Fortune 500 territory soon.

After analyzing this year's Fortune 500 (really Fortune 1000) some, here's my highlights (and lowlights):

- Crown Castle becomes Houston's newest Fortune 500 company. The cell tower real estate giant is due to continue growing, as communication is ever becoming more important. They've also made a strong push for 5G, which is somewhat in jeopardy now with Americans losing trust.

- KBR NARROWLY missed ranking at 501. The engineering giant one of the prime examples of energy companies able to diversify, as most of their recent moves have went to military works. Obviously Trump's willingness to spend on the military helps them.

- Lost one, gained one. Marathon Oil is out of the list as CC joins. Since this is a diversification threat, this trade off does just that.

- American National Insurance (based in Galveston) is growing FAST. Currently the Houston area's largest finance company. They're at #636 now, and are growing faster than ever. Currently one of the largest finance companies in Texas, they'll likely reach 500 status in the near future.

- Fertitta Entertainment is a private company, making them not forced to cooperate, they'd be in the Fortune 1000 currently if they chose to cooperate.

- The retail recession shows in Houston too, as Tailored Brands (Men's Warehouse parent company) is going down financially and even had an unprofitable year. Like most of the retail industry, this is expected to continue in 2021. Stage Stores/Gordmans, Houston's second largest retail company, recently went bankrupt and their future is unclear.

- LNG seems to be growing, as the LNG based companies are showing the most revenue growth of all energy companies (that haven't diversified).
