The $125 million, 240,000-square-foot facility opened Wednesday at Hobby Airport, boasting enough room to hold 14 Boeing 737 planes — six inside the hangar and eight more outside — as the airline looks for continued growth in Houston.

The maintenance facility has 140,000 square feet of hangar space and 100,000 square feet for offices, parts storage, paint booth and other support areas. Outside the hangar is 450,000 square feet of apron paving and two wash stations.

The facility’s nearly 400 employees will be capable of conducting a wide variety of activities, ranging from large scheduled maintenance reviews and scheduled projects that could include changing an engine to unscheduled maintenance issues such as an aircraft being struck by lightning, said Landon Nitschke, Southwest’s senior vice president of technical operations.

Back in January Southwest Airlines opened a $125 million maintenance facility at Hobby Airport. Not to be outdone United has opened a nearly $200 million maintenance facility at Intercontinental, both creating jobs, travel opportunities and of course increasing Houston's economic diversity.

United Airlines opened a nearly $200 million maintenance facility Thursday at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The Technical Operations Center is 375,000 square feet and includes a warehouse distribution center, a building for support personnel such as engineering teams and maintenance record teams and 260,000 square feet of aircraft hangar space.

The hangar is large enough to accommodate three wide-body aircraft, such as Boeing’s 787, 767 or 777.

United has roughly 2,000 employees who will work from the Technical Operations Center, which will house line maintenance where technicians perform quick, routine maintenance, such as inspecting an aircraft’s engine oil, wheels or brakes.

Roosevelt University's Wabash Building is 32 floors. Second-tallest higher education building in the world. They also have some offices in the Gage Buildings where my work is.

Columbia College is scattered among several buildings on Michigan Avenue.

I'm not sure what makes this so unusual to you. TMC has been building vertical for a good while now.

Tilman Fertitta is at it again, consuming another Steak house brand, this one Hq'ed in Florida, and increasing Houston's economic diversity.

Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta plans to acquire The Palm steakhouse chain out of bankruptcy in a deal worth at least $50 million, further expanding his business empire.
Fertitta, who also owns the Houston Rockets, said on Friday he has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the iconic restaurant chain, whose Naples, Fla.-based licensing company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year. The deal, expected to close in mid-March, is pending final approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The Palm, founded in New York by Italian immigrants in 1926, has 21 locations nationwide, including a steakhouse and lobster restaurant in Houston that opened in 1978.

“The Palm is one of the storied restaurant brands in America, and we are excited for this opportunity,” Fertitta said in a statement. “The Palm is a perfect complement to our portfolio of steakhouse concepts.”

Zadig & Voltair just opened their first Texas location in Houston. Hate bringing up old topics, but re-establishing my point that Houston has been the hottest middle America market as far as luxury shopping goes. All it took was getting the right places. When a project as impactful as the River Oaks District opens, it affects the entire city. The Galleria, Highland Village, Woodlands, etc had to step their game up. It’s like adding Lebron James to a team, he makes all the pieces around him better. Now that there are the locations, the true potential for Luxury shopping in Houston is showing. Since then, Houston has been the most attractive market for luxury shopping in “Middle America”.

As for how it relates to Houston’s economy diversifying, Houston establishing itself as the premier Texas destination for luxury shopping creates a lot of “retail tourism”. Houston is specifically highly toured by wealthy people of Mexico and Central America.

Paraguanero you just posted about it, both in this thread and another. If I see something about it that you haven't mentioned yet I will.
