I REALLY fail to see how Houston is the worst designed city.

I don't think there is anything wrong with houston's design. It may not be aesthetically pleasing but it is unique and has it charms.

City is designed extremely well, it's the development overlaid unto it that is poor. But the layout is one of the best in the US.

Houston has an extremely well designed grid and a convenient bullseye highway system. The way the infrastructure is built up has nothing to do with the design. Things such as minimum parking requirements, huge set backs, and other things that contribute to low density have little to do with design.

The multiple little cities that spring up out of nowhere?

Half the city on the East side never utilized and probably never will?

The zoning is a blessing and a problem at the same time.

It is great until you suddenly see a strip club open right in front of your neighborhood entrance.

This. I was utterly spoiled by Houston highways and hate driving anywhere else. It is the most practical city I've ever lived in but then again most Texas cities are super practical. While most cities visualize an aesthetically pleasing city to build character and such, Houston looks as though it was designed not by an a engineer but for them.
