Do not be dismayed.

You are conferring with strangers who have no knowledge of your roof or situation.

Half the comments had to do with composition roofs.

And, some of these folks will spend $100 for a comfy seat to watch a movie.

In talking to the tree guy couple of weeks ago about annual trimming a palm or taking it down, the person informed me that the company couldn't send out a crew for less than a $350 job. When DH was doing work that involved a truck, tools and 2 men, it cost him 125 an hour to put a guy in a truck.

Perhaps you paid too much. We'll never know and it is to late now. Don't beat yourself up. Part of that charge was for your education.

I peruse Angie's list for the comments on charges for work i am considering having done. It gives a ballpark idea what is the custom and practice in my area.

Applying cauking her and there and taking 15 minutes to do that. The charge should not be more than $50 if that.

Where do you guys live? Malibu, California?

I wonder if a full time professional roofer would even come out for a 50 bucks fixing job. I had called couple of other places and all of them had a wait time of 1 to 2 weeks. That guy showed up with his truck the same day late evening. So, I dont feel like he robbed me.

There is a floor that these types of tradesman charge for their services. I'd say $150 is a fair floor for work that successfully fixes an acute problem, even if it takes 5 minutes. You are paying for their expertise and knowledge as well.

Now the OPs botched $2000 roof leak fix, utterly ridiculous in every sense.
