I went to this neighborhood just outside the beltway today, down South Post Oak. It's a close-in, really affordable neighborhood, with nice looking houses, nice trees, kind of a country feel... I wondered why I've never heard of it, and why nobody looking for affordable neighborhoods is ever directed here. There are nice 3-bedroom houses for 125K. And it's not "ghetto" looking at all. Any insights?

That area is a notorious ghetto. There are tons of run down houses around there.

This is NOT a good neighborhood. There is nothing appealing about it and better places to spend $125k on a house.

I am shocked those houses cost 125k. I thought they were less.

That area is quite bad.

Fort Bend and Fort Bend ISD schools are one of the biggest facades in Texas right now. Ask any teacher there, they all know, it is slowly transitioning to HISD with two high schools they only care about, and the same goes down the line for junior high and elementary. Austin High School is promoted as a quality school, but fact of the matter is that it is much more inner-city than suburban.

Austin is a great school; I think you are sorely mistaken.

I'm not sure we have the same definition of "ghetto." This looked a lot nicer than a lot of the other Houston "Nasty".

Agreed. The thing I have noticed with Fort Bend, is really their only problem schools and lower rated schools seem to be in the extremely lower income areas, such as Ridgemont and Ridgegate. The schools in areas such as most of Sugar Land, New Territory, First Colony, Sienna Plantation, Etc., are great.

Exactly, a two school district: Ridge Point, Clements and their feeders. Austin is similar to what Kempner was five years ago and following that path socio-economically speaking.

Austin and Travis will be all right for the time being, but most kids will and should go to Travis for the academy option.
