Cypress Creek High School in Houston TX - SchoolDigger.com

This is the trend for Cy Creek HS.

It went from 93% to the 63% now and rapidly declining.

Free lunch and minority enrollment has shot way up the last 10 years.

You can draw your own conclusions.

Not that Cypress Creek HS matters to someone zoned to Klein, but even Cypress Creek compares fine to Stratford which is the OP's current zoned high school. They are all perfectly solid high schools. Sorry ipuck.

Yep OP here. Current schools are Meadowwood Elem, Spring Forest Middle and Stratford HS. CF would be Brill Elem, Kleb Middle and Klein HS. I am mostly concerned with current middle school but my kids have not even started elementary yet so I have some time I suppose.

We made almost the same move in 2010, and have never looked back. Life in Champions Forest has been great for us.....we love the area, homes are much better quality (built in the 70's) than the tract homes in the Katy area. . We lived out in the Katy area (Nottingham Forest) for 30 years, and made the move to Champions mainly for a better work commute. The biggest difference - homes are much nicer and the Trees make you feel like you live in the country. Second biggest difference - EVERYTHING is closer. The Vintage Park is like having Italy just around the corner, you can get to the beltway and park -n-ride quickly, excellent shopping and restaurants and the people are wonderful. No screaming kids or dogs running loose, and everyone takes good care of their homes/yards. There is a sense of community here that I never felt in Katy. We did however update the piping (to Pecs) in our Beautiful 36 year old home on a half acre double lot that has character. Brill Elementary is an Excellent School, and only serves Champions Forest. Hope this helps !

At that point, most people would simply throw their hands up in the air and move to Cinco Ranch down the highway for the visually stunning new(er) house without those problems.

Galvanized plumbing is one thing. But aluminum wiring on top of that? That's too much, especially at great expense to fix.

But the schools and the less-convenient location hurt.
People have different values. Some prefer the convenience of being close to the inner city/commercial district with the congestion that comes with it. Some prefer the quiet of the far suburbs/exburbs with the inconvenient daily commute and access to services.

One more time, Ipuck.

The school is required to check less than 3% of the applications that are turned in. They rarely do because for every kid who is labeled low income, the school gets at least an extra thousand dollars a year.

Those numbers do not mean jack chit.

Also, FWIW I moved 18 months ago from a subdivision of houses that were selling from the cheapest, mine @ 375 to around 550 to a subdivision where the houses run around 200-250 . Guess what. There is more money in this little cheap subdivision than the other one. All these house prices tell you is what people spend, not what they have.

To the OP, Champions Forest is a good neighborhood. Be sure to check, they also have galvanized plumbing.

I didn't say anything about free lunches.

I am only showing how the school is trending downward in test scores.

And the uptick in minorities from a mostly Caucasian school.

The school basically went from one of the top tier school in the city to rapidly declining.

My argument all along if you have kids, there are better options than that area.

Personally I think North of 1960 is very nice. I love the park myself and Vintage Park is great.

However, the area is not that convenient to anywhere as no major freeway is nearby. 249 is currently a parking garage.

This is a serious consideration if you have kids and you want them in good schools.

Nottingham Forest is a Kickerillo 70ish subdivision south of Memorial.

I only disagree with the fact that you said rapidly declining, because CCHS' scores have been slightly declining for years, same in regards to the rise of its racial diversity, although I don't think that necessarily means a bad thing. I would agree with you that it's a tad disengenous to try and lump CCHS along with the well performing CFISD schools cause its scores are pretty below average for the district.
