There is a CD aviation forum. You may get a response there or at least a general idea of cost: https://www.city-data.com/forum/aviation/

While I can't make any specific recommendations, flying lessons are expensive. Clubs will quote you a price based on FAA minimums when in reality most people take far longer to get their private license. I'd guesstimate about $8,000 - $10,000 in total with actual flight hours costing approximately $130/hr with an instructor and $90/hr for solo hours.

If you're learning part time, maybe a few hours a month, it could take a lot longer and thus be more expensive.

Do a google search for flight schools in Houston, at least you'll have a place to start.

All flying lessons will be expensive. Pretty sure it is going to cost considerably more than equivalent instruction time at a public university. San Jacinto College has pilots training. Not sure what side of town you are on.

Well, 'not expensive' is relative to how much disposable income one has. My brother-in-law is a pilot and he offered to help me learn to fly about 20 years ago, and back then it was about 10-15K. Maybe that gives you an idea of the cost today. Like someone else said, it is like paying for a year at a good university.

It's also good to point out that something like twice as many people people start pilot training than continue it after their second year.

A lot of people don't realize the cost and time to not only get their private pilot's license but to also maintain their skills and things like their medical and BFR.

Once I hear somebody say something like "not too expensive", I question whether or not they may be wasting their money.
