OK - changed my mind I'm not coming now

Just texted my husband who is waiting for his flight home at IAH as we speak to let him know, it's all over I ain't moving.

Unless of course you kind folks can tell me hown to bug proof my home once I get there. I thought the few spiders and the odd midgie here in Scotland was bad.....

Don't let the bug thing stop you from moving. We exterminate our house semi-annually and NEVER have bugs in the house except for finding an occasional dead one now and then. We have cats who have never been harmed from our exterminating either.

texas7,what do you do for your semi annual exterminating? What is the cost?
In driving around I have also seen billboards advertising "Spider Be Gone"
systems. Do any of you know about that?

Never used Spider be gone. I know the cost of our exterminating is minimal but don't know the $ amount. My husband takes care of it so I am not sure who he uses to do it. He makes sure to get one that is odorless and is not harmful to pets (although we do take them out of the house while it is being done as a safety precaution). Because I have all sorts of allergies - he gets it done while I am not at home.

texas7, would you mind terribly to ask your husband who he uses? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

We used that on our house and it worked great. You can also buy bug bombs to set off in the house while you and pets are gone. Also don't kill the little lizards in your yard they are great for pest control.

I have never done that. I guess my concern would be if your furnace was up there. But thinking about it, as a child I remember my Mom bombing the basement in our house in Ohio and our gas furnace was down there. I would call an exterminator and see what they say I guess. Sorry I couldn't answer any better.
