Is anyone out there familiar with KBR or Haliburton ( home office located in Houston)? My Brother is considering a job with KBR and I was hoping to hear from someone familiar with the company or maybe someone who works for them. Thanks.

KBR's headquarters are in Downtown. Halliburton's headquarters are moving to Dubai, but they will still maintain their offices here. It's quite a solid company thanks to war contracts. I have a good friend that works for KBR and is overseas right now making tons of money. I think your Brother will be very happy!

I would say you should consider who the next president of the US will be before planning your life around a job with them. They moved to Dubai not just because of the lax taxation and less restrictive laws but also because by basing their headquarters there they circumvent many regualtions and laws that would apply to them in the US. They could also escape many potential investigations into what they charged for war contracts and where the money went in the case of future audits.

Should a non-establishment candidate take the office there are probably going to be investigations which could potnetially lead them to close all opperations in the US and be completely based overseas. They would still contract with the US govt. but lots of people would have to relocate to the middle east.

My Dad worked for them in Afghanistan for a while. They don't tax you if you put a year straight in, but if you don't make it that long you get taxed heavy. They used to ship a lot of people right out of Houston, after they gave orientation for a few days - how to use a gas mask and so on. I don't think they hire anywhere near that many people now.

For that matter, how will the Houston energy business survive when Hillary is elected? Will there be a significant downturn in the Houston economy?

This is kind of beyond the scope of this thread but there will be a drastic downturn in the whole economy no matter who is president because roughly since about 2002-present the real estate scam of price increases of 15-20 per year and how people were buying and selling homes like baseball cards created phoney wealth spun out of thin air.

Now reality has arrived and the suckers who paid $350K for a house built in a new development 40 miles from the city on what was farmland worth maybe $10,000 an acre just a few years ago have been left holding the homes and no one else will buy. The era of money for nothing is closing in this area.

This means less SUVs sold, vactions bought, luxury items sales, etc....including less energy use.

To top this the cult of global warming will probably impose a carbon tax that will do NOTHING for the enviroment but will line the pockets of the govt. to waste of BS projects. Remember this, unless someone grows their own food, uses only animal power for transportation, makes their own clothes, does not have electricity in their house, etc....they have no right to lecture you about the environment. And no you are not saving the world by driving a hybrid vehicle because it creates more pollution to build the hybrid vehicle than it would to keep an existing one on the road.

Well, KBR/Halliburton tend to get the contracts they get because they are pretty much the only company in the world that can supply the work that they do. They basically have no competition.

Whatever the case may be, I don't think anyone in here would complain if they were working for them, rolling in the dough.
