My husband and I lived in right out side of NYC and moved down here last year.
My husband was relocated to The Woodlands and pay was not changed.
If you work in Houston, The Woodlands is probably too far. the morning rush is really bad. We left house at 6am and got to downtown Houston area around 7:30am on normal Monday. Plus toll is really expensive here. it's like you commute to NYC to NJ everyday. I don't know much about Houston area but I don't think WDL is the best choice for you. Kingwood has some really nice areas and heard that they are planning to build some big mall or something.
And Food, no good foods except Mexican. No good pizza (we both were really disappointed).

I don't really want to get into argument about food and how great the food is in houston. Fact is there is probably no other city in the world that have the kind of variety or selection that NYC have. I can ride the 7 subway line and eat different variety of ethic foods in every stop; from greek to polish to peru to korean to chinese to russian/polish jewish and on and on.

Yes there are pockets of decent food if you drive far enough, but this is not NY, not even close. You will never understand it unless you live there. I am not complaining about houston, I am just stating along with the rest of former NYers what they miss from NY.

And yes, the pizza here is not even close to NY. Don't even try to argue about it.

I noticed that, too. It was one of the most ridiculous comments I've ever seen in the forum. Houston is known far and wide as a superb restaurant and food city.

Your New York food experience is not relevant. This is not "city vs city". Let the visitors decide for themselves once they move here. They have an upbeat outlook (unlike yours) and sound like they would be a great addition to the population of the area.

This is not NYC, if the thread breaks down into a NYC vs Houston comparison it will be closed.

Do you have any idea how expensive real estate is in the Heights? The OPs mentioned that they gross around 70k which may be fine for renting but is definitely not enough for buying.

So yes, the Heights is probably what will fit you best. It's got a small-town-in-big-city feel to it, which also makes it quite popular and expensive. Definitely speak to a Realtor and see what's available.
