No, it's only for IQs equal to or higher than 145. It's not a huge program. I believe it is still a "school within a school" format.

There seems to be some confusion with the purpose of the GT program. It is not exclusively for high IQ students (which is what Snazzy1 appears to be talking about). Certainly, intelligence is a factor, but a qualifying factor (if not one of the most important ones) is lateral thinking (i.e. "thinking outside the box"). In other words, you can have a very smart kid who is a terrible fit for the GT program because of how it is structured. To the previous question, either your child has those lateral thinking skills or not. It's not like studying for the SAT. And even if they were to somehow "fake" it, they probably wouldn't enjoy the program, anyway!

I did not intend to cause any confusion. Its just that our district has two gifted programs. HG, for the highly gifted IQ range, and GT, for the lateral/out of the box thinkers. Normally, it would not be worth mentioning the first program since it applies to a very small subset of the GT kids. However, the original poster mentioned that their child tested highly gifted.

I'm the OP, my post was from 3 years ago!

The problem with the SBISD gifted school is that you have to be a SBISD resident to even apply, which means having my kids already in SBISD, but we couldn't afford to buy something in a decent zone. It's unfortunate but I understand why they do it.

I didn't mean confusion from your comments, Snazzy, or even to the OP It was the message last week that resurrected this thread asking about to "study" to get into GT. It's great to nurture your kid's creativity, but i was just commenting that it isn't something you just pick up in some GT for Dummies book.

It would be great if you could though!
