My husband was offered a job in Houston and we're moving in July. His job is in the 77002 area, where can we live and be less that 30-40 minutes from his work? I definitely want to make sure he has a decent commute but without having to live in the ghetto or become a jewel thief to pay rent.

We don't want to go above 1375 for a 2 bedroom apartment. We're saving to buy a house next year.

Are schools a factor for you to rent? If no kids and school quality is not an issue, you can comfortably rent in that budget with multiple options.

You could rent an apt in midtown and live in his work zip code.

Our daughter is only 7 months so schools won't be an issue for a few years.

77002 is downtown. If you are looking at suburban areas Kingwood or Atascocita are area a 35-40 minutes commute if that sounds reasonable and you can get a nice apartment in that budget. Check 77339.

That's on the days without any traffic issues on 59. All it takes is one stalled car to double that time which is essentially guaranteed a minimum of once every other week. If her husband has a job with strict arrival times and specified hours, that could essentially mean that he'll always have to plan for such an issue and be well above the commute time listed.

I like Kingwood and Atascocita and would recommend it; however, that is not a good option based upon the OP's criteria, IMHO.
