I will be moving to the nations 4th largest city (5th largest metro) in September and need a little more information.

First, I will have a job working near Greenspoint. Making upper $50k. I would like live near there if possible. Looking to rent at a decent, crime-free apartment complex for maximum $900 a month. Maybe in the future buy a single-story garden-type home in the future. If so, where to look for that in the nearby area?

I will have a car also.

I need an estimate and name of the various utilities: power, water, cable, etc. Also, interested in the frequency of hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding. Is that major problem in the area?

Also, can anyone give a rundown on the following in or near that area: grocery stores, malls, banks (I use BBVA Compass), gas station, restaurants, etc.

Any prompt responses would be appreciated thank you.

I work in the area, and you do NOT want to live near by; it's mostly minority neighborhoods, plenty of crime, mixed in with some shops and restaurants. You want to live in Spring, The Woodlands, or up 249.

There's a lot of info on all those stats you're asking for on this site.

As far as what's near by in any neighborhood, go to maps.google.com and type in "restaurants", "banks", gas stations", etc.

This is a huge town, huge. You'll find everything you need at about the same prices as any other cities (except CA and NY).

It's my understanding that area is affectionately known as "Gunspoint" so you decide.

Live up 45 in Spring/near Spring.

Scroll through apartments near Cypresswood Dr. It's lined with pretty nice apartments for around your budget...err a little more. Increase to $1k max and you're good. Rush hour Cypresswood/Spring to Greenspoint is about 30-45 minutes.

Less in the afternoon if you take the feeder along 45. The feeder is a snail in the morning but in the afternoon it actually moves pretty quick surprisingly.

Malls go to Willowbrook, the Woodlands or Deerbrook in Humble if you want to drive a little bit more. Don't go to Greenspoint Mall.

I thought they had some pretty nice houses and areas off Greens/Gears west of 45? Of course i didn't know the crime stats but it seemed quiet.
