I am advised to try Propecia (Finasteride) and probably Proscar, it's generic form, for early-warning signs of Male Pattern Baldness (MPB). Please share your experiences:

- What's your experience with any of them on MPB issue?
- Did your doctor make any blood tests prior to that? I am told that it is important since these pills alter your hormone level, and it is imperative to know your original levels to see what is changed.
- What Houston dermatologist with experience in MPB and specifically Propecia (Finasteride) would you recommend? Personal experiences, please.

- Finally, did anyone use Rogaine/Minoxidil in their 30s/40s and was it effective? How would you compare it to Propecia (Finasteride)?

Thank you. (this is me in 20 years, ha ha ha )

The best advice I can give you is to shave it. I know you don't want to hear this. First of all, women actually respect men more who embrace it vs those who hide it and are insecure about it. Second, yes, you are altering your hormone levels and there are consequences to that. I'm sure one day in the future they will have a quick fix and it will be relatively safe. Some of the possible side effects are a shrinking prostrate, trouble ejaculating, trouble holding an erection, male breasts, breast cancer in men, depression and impotence. And for what? It's been shown to grow very small amounts of hair in about 30% of men. Will it delay your baldness? Sure, by a few years. The side effects you get to keep as a souvenir. It's debatable if they can be reversed or not. Good luck!

I'll chime in on question #1 and #4

- What's your experience with any of them on MPB issue?
I've used Propecia for about 18 months. I've seen my MPB stop and I've actually seen some regrowth. My wife had commented that my hair looks thicker now as well and I can see the difference in pictures. You won't end up with a flowing mane but it has helped me a bit.

- Finally, did anyone use Rogaine/Minoxidil in their 30s/40s and was it effective? How would you compare it to Propecia (Finasteride)?
I use Minoxidil as well. I've used both the liquid and foam and I just apply at night before bed. I haven't used them separately but my Doc told me that most of her patients that are battling MPB use both and there aren't really any issues with doing so....so I'm using all of the weapons at my disposal.

I may eventually end up with a Bic in my hand, but I'm glad I've found an alternative for the time being.

AND...as a conspiracy theory sidenote...MPB can be cured but fighting MPB is a multi billion-dollar industry and the Illuminati want a bunch of insecure males dropping their $$$ on fighting it until Armageddon. If they can grow a HUMAN EAR on a MOUSE they sure as #$@% can grow HUMAN HAIR on a HUMAN HEAD!! <off soapbox>
