Some people call Mount Rushmore art
I call it destroying art created by nature (before and after picture)

I like the graffi on the overpass driving into Houston on 45. I think it says something like "Be who you are" or something like that. I haven't been on that route in a while.

They embrace it heavily in Austin some amazing artwork. Just look at the Houston mural across from Market Square and see how it just added a splash of character to downtown.

Default Meh...

Commissioned art is one thing, tagging is another. It depends on what you expect to see. If I go to the barrios in El Paso, for example, I expect it. When I am near the border in El Paso, I expect it. When you enter a modern downtown such as Houston's, I don't expect it. That is when art becomes trash, for me anyway, everyone has their own expectations.

When I am in the century old cities in Europe, nothing ruins the photos more than the graffiti on the walls. I think letters are the worst; when it is some other form of art, it is not so bad. In fact, I see little black and white pictures of dogs and cats at various intersections around the Heights/Montrose and I10 areas and I'm okay with that. But interestingly, when I see an image of Che Guevera, I hate that.

One of my neighbors in Montrose has a nice/expensive townhome and maintains it very nicely, but he has an electrical panel that faces the street. It was tagged recently with letters. This is when 'Street Art' becomes a problem. Why do it in a residential neighborhood? No images either, just gang style writing. Are we supposed to appreciate gang writing?

People who can't appreciate art need to reevaluate their lives.

Are you supposed you confuse tagging with art? Why would you say you like artistic graffiti then to contradict yourself and expect people to accept tagging as art? Makes absolutely no sense.

I like art a lot, but it's different when it's done on property that is not yours. It's also presumptuous to put it in a public place when it wasn't asked for and assume people will like it. I like how some graffiti look but some are just hideous. I agree that some of those people have a lot of talent, but that doesn't mean I want them to deface other people's houses/businesses.
To those who are for it, how would you feel if I went into your bedroom and painted your murals with what I think looks good and you have to look at it everyday. Even if I was Monet, you may not appreciate my type of art on YOUR wall. I like my city without graffiti, thank you very much, but I guess I don't have a say in it, those 'artists' made that decision for all of us.
