My wife is working in Houston. I come to the US on a B2 visa. She is pregant now, and I just wanna be with her. We just bought a new house in Houston. I want to find a job in Houston so I can contribute to the family. I have a master degree of Geology. What would be the best choices for me?

Thanks!

Exclamation No...

B-2 Visa? That's a tourist visa. You can not work on a B-2 visa. That is illegal... But then, who really cares about that nowadays.

Quote:
Tourism and Visit (B-2):
  • tourism
  • vacation (holiday)
  • visit with friends or relatives
  • medical treatment
  • participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations
  • participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
  • enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation).

With a good education as you mention, I think you stand a chance at working this out. But you will need to talk with an immigration lawyer to see how to go about changing the status of your visa. It might involve re-entering on a work visa. Or if you find a company that wants to sponsor you, that is also a legal route. But I would speak with a legal counsel in this matter first.

Geology in Houston? Hmmm...that's a tough one. Perhaps something in the med center.
