hi there,

a couple of things I wanted to highlight as a fellow immigrant:

1. make sure you do not overstay your tourist visa, leave before it expires and then return. If you overstay you can still leave, but will be banned to return for a while...

2. do not work illegally! never try on a tourist visa. take the proper route, otherwise there is no happiness for you in your newly chosen home

3. finding a company who sponsors you for a work visa does not always work out. a colleague of mine was refused the work visa even though the company sponsored her and used a law firm for the process. the law firm received a 3 pages long list of questions from the US government as the position/knowledge combo was not proven special enough (rational for using niche language skills...etc was considered to be a lot of BS)

---the law firm advised the company to drop the case which they did. Wife got visa through her spouse who was here on L1

4. if nothing works out for a work permit till this point, go and get a US education..it will be easier to fit in with a local degree if your foreign one or foreign work experience is not accepted
