Also, I've been looking up apartments online and found Brompton Court Apartments just off Kirby/Holcombe. Would you guys happen to know anything about these apartments/ this area? Would the commute be short to downtown? Is this a safe area? I'd like to keep my rent under $900.

It's a safe area, that's pretty much where Bellaire, West University, and the Medical Center meet. I remember looking at those apartments before and it was full of college students (studying at Rice or in the Med Center). The area is quite residential so there's nothing much happening around there except in Rice Village (bars, restaurants, shopping).
