right? i always thought it would be nice to have commuter rail down the HOV lanes with elevated stations at the park and rides, dumping out into the light rail system inside the loop.

But then people wouldn't have to drive everywhere, and they'd spend less money on gas and tolls which would mean less money in the pockets of oil companies and toll operators.

That's the idea! Keep it high enough that the HOV people can still move fast. Too low and it will fill up.

I know you're right, it's just I'd like to take it some mornings when getting up at 4.30 to miss the traffic doesn't happen (like today) and $5 is just a little too steep for me to stomach on anything but an occasional basis.

The HOV lanes have had pretty much the same volume of traffic in my experience, but curiously the HOT entrance signs were still indicating CLOSED. I just checked the hours and sure enough, when we are in the HOV lane (between 6:45-8am) the lane is still HOV3+ only.

The police presence on the HOV lane lately has been the biggest headache in recent weeks, even before the HOT lanes opened. While we are a bona fide 3-passenger carpool, I don't begrudge the lanes being used by 2+ vehicles and it irritates me to sit in long passenger check queues 2-3 times per week while police are ticketing carpools with not enough riders.

That will fade in a few weeks or so.Luckily my travel times are during the HOT lane times.
