I don’t mean to be a downer, but summer is really hot n sticky here. I used to complain when temp would rise to 90s in NY, Houston temp gets100+ in the summer. It's short in good bagel shops or pizza. Don’t expect Houston downtown would be anything like the big apple. You won’t find any strolling place like 5th Ave. here. No subways or commuter rail service (clogged highways during rush hrs.). Hard to find nice parks (I miss Central Park). High property taxes. To my astonishment, some public schools even today teach raising hogs and farming!
On the plus side, winter is mild. Compared to NY people are friendlier and not as hot tempered as some New Yorkers can come across. Low crime rate. Cost of living is cheaper than NY and your buck goes farther. Affordable and high ranking state universities.

It's audition-based, like any art school. I'm not even sure you have to live in the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Here's a link with admission requirements, etc.

To your astonishment? Where exactly do you think your food comes from anyway? Did you know most farmers are over 60 now? I see farming as a growth industry in a few years.

As great as the replies were, they were rather off topic. Please try to actually answer the question asked by the OP in your responses.
