I recently accepted a job in Texas City and will be moving to the area from Seattle in a few months. I am a 23 year old single male looking for the best area for young professionals. Price is not a huge concern, but I really would like to live around other young professionals. Most of the areas I have looked at seem to be suburbs full of slightly older families. Ideally I would like a commute under 30 minutes, any suggestions?

Midtown, Montrose, Washington Avenue, Heights. Also Eastwood is apparently an up and coming neighborhood but it still looks kinda iffy to me.

Midtown would be perfect but I think that is too far away. How is Galveston now, I have heard from a few friends who used to live in the area that it used to be kind of questionable. And is there any specific area of Clear Lake that you would recommend?

Thats true but there's not that many areas for young professionals outside the beltway. Galveston looks pretty nice though.

Clear lake has some nice apts in Webster neighborhood called edgewater. Have some youn friends who lived there. Close to major roads to get you to Tx city or into houston. Worth checking out.

Galveston definitely is questionable. Lots of really nice areas there, but also lots of not-so-nice right around every corner. Try North Galveston county, or where I live - League City. And also as suggested earlier take a good look at Clear Lake. Even Friendswood if you want to be close to Clear Lake but not in Clear Lake. I worked in Clear Lake for a while, and one of my co-workers lived in Midtown. I wouldn't recommend the commute, but you could live in Clear Lake and easily go to Midtown on the weekends.

These areas are the best and I think the commute time should not be an issue. I dive back and forth from Galveston to DT often and the longest its taken me was 40 minute. Also, the OP would be driving against the traffic to and from work so that should not be much of an issue either.

To the OP, If your willing to stretch your commute time a little, i would strongly suggest to move inside the city. Your going to get the best of what Houston has to offer inside of the loop. I think the Heights, Midtown & East DT/Downtown are the areas to be in for someone in there mid-late 20's. Plenty professionals mingle/party/club around those areas (including me). Uptown/the Galleria area would be a good choice to..but that will add 30 minutes to your commute. League City & the citys south of it (excluding Galveston) are not areas to be in for a young professional in their early 20's, especially if your not from here.

BUT if you want to live south, Clear Lake/Webster or the Southbelt area are good choices. Southbelt would be the best area IMO because its closer to the city. The commute time to Texas City from Southbelt is no more than 20 minutes. Decent living and pretty good ethnic restaurants in the area too.

Good Luck.
