On Montrose, between I-10 and Richmond, there are a handful of gas stations, beginning with the new Kroger just south of I-10. Unleaded today was $2.99 (price before the 10 cents off that you get with 100 points). Prices went up from there as I headed south on Montrose, but the highest I saw was $3.09 (the Chevron just south of Allen Parkway) until I got to the Shell station at Richmond and Montrose, which had unleaded at $3.39/gallon. This looks like one of the few instances where it might actually pay to drive a mile the other way to get a much, much cheaper price!

Prices here in Pearland seem to be $2.82 to $3.09 per gallon.

The Kroger's on Shadow Creek Parkway was at $2.82 according to gasbuddy.com about 3 hours ago.

Some places in Houston are at $2.75

Don't believe everything on the internet....

I've always assumed gas prices vary from area to area due to area competition and how prime of the location they have.

Gasoline prices can vary from block to block based upon competition. The overall price level, $3.xx vs 4.xx depends on global supply interruption potential and strong global demand. We have weak global demand due to poor economies but local competition can drive 10-20 cent differentials. Note, gasoline stations make more money off the lottery ticket sales than gasoline profits.... so they have to be competitive to sell the snickers and lotto tickets.

The weak economy can be attributed to many things including politicians but truth is its more complex. Transportation cost and state taxes are a big factor in differences across the country.

It will vary on a lot of things.
Nearby competition, type of area ( wealthy .... not so wealthy ) ... THIS is IMO .

Spring is from 2.98 to 3.09 for regular.

Use the gasbuddy app or website to find the cheapest stations. Once you find the cheap stations near you, you're set. They tend to stay the cheapest in that area. Just make sure you don't get water in your gas tank.

Yeah, I've been seeing $3.09 as the highest and that's why the $3.39 just a couple miles from $3.09 was so jarring. I don't think it's uncommon to see a 1 to 5 cent different, maybe even 10 cents, within a certain area, but c'mon! It's a 30 cent per gallon differential. The only explanation I have is that there is very little competition around this particular station; I can't think of any other gas stations in the immediate vicinity and the pumps were full so clearly it's not bothering Museum District folks.

Good god you people are lucky. Do not complain about 3.39 gas. I have to drive to the ghetto in LA to get 3.60 gas, and that's on a special day, normally it's 3.76.

That gas station is ALWAYS full too. I have to wait around a while to get a pump.

The normal chain wide stations charge 3.90-4.15. I saw it 4.50 in Beverly Hills.

You people are spoiled, lol! JK
