Have you ever been to the United States? Your English seems very good so I'm guessing you've already been here.

Houston truly is what you make it. It isn't NYC or Chicago or LA. There aren't things that are happening everywhere and you just walk outside of your door and its there. You have to look for it.

But first things first, GET YOURSELF A CAR! Unlike Europe there is no major public transportation support. Driving is the only way to go. Thats my advice.

Then you can check out things to do and events to attend, talk to co-workers, go online and see if there is an event you can attend.

There are alot of soccer (or non-american) football leagues you can join, there are people from all over the world (mostly nigeria and the middle-east) that play and I know you italians are crazy about soccer.

Houston is a major city but it's nothing like Europe, people usually dont walk to the local coffee shop, or go down to the local bar to hang out; people drive, and drive to go see things and enjoy restaurants. Some live in certain areas to only need to walk, but usually there aren't many that live in a close enough area to do that. So be ready for that.

Good luck man.
Thanks a lot, very good description of the American lifestyle!

Thanks for the good feedback on my english, but I never lived in the USA. I only been for about 10 days in California (Santa Rosa and San Francisco) and a week in NYC... That's it.
But it is now 6 years that I left my country and my main language became the english.
Unfortunately I steel keeping the Italian accent (terrible) and I hate it.

2 cars (one for me and a small one for my wife) are definetely the first thing I'm going to buy once there.

Have you any link where to check out "things to do" in Houston?

Cheers

May I add one important question?
Could someone be so kind to give me an exstimation of the monthly life cost in Houston in terms of:

- Taxes
- Rentals (now) and mortgages (as soon as I'll get the right residence visa)
- Utilities
- others...

We are only myself and my wife

Thanks

Paolo Benvenuto!!

You'll like Houston. You might enjoy staying closer to down town. Mid town area is close to all the great cafes, unique shops, museums and just a quick trip to downtown for sports, shopping and all the cool restaurants.

The Woodlands has a great mall area is home to the Cynthia Woods Pavilion for some great outdoor shows

A couple of my American Accent students were Italian (From Napoli and Pescara) and told me about some of the things they used to frequent like Piola restaurant in Down town houston (Off louisiana I believe). Ate there a few times, nice trendy Italian place as well as:
Italian Cultural Center
1101 Milford
Houston
Tel: + 1 (713) 524 4222/+ 1 (713) 524 6121

Caffe' delle Italiane

You'll love the multicultural feel of Houston. There's tons to do, but you will need a car to get anywhere.

Enjoy your stay!

Ron
