I'm in college and I have a strong desire to move to the Houston area after I graduate. The metro-Atlanta area, for the most part, is segregated by race and socio-economic status. (Rich blacks, middle-class blacks, rich whites, middle-class whites, etc.) My family (black) lives in the middle class white area. There's nothing wrong with it, I just want more diversity.

I just want to move to an area where I feel comfortable. I don't like the idea that we're separated by the colors of our skin. As long as you're a good person, I don't see why we can't be neighbors. I do plan on taking a long vacation this summer to Houston.

I've been looking at the west end of Missouri City (77459) like Sienna Plantation. I'm in love with Sugar Land (Telfair and Riverstone), too! However, when I look at the demographics, I see more whites, Asians, and Indians but hardly any blacks or Latinos. Is there such thing as an equally diverse town?

If youre looking for a town that's equally diverse among all groups, check out Stafford.

All cities are divided by economic status. Do you expect middle class people to live in the hood? Do you think there are poor people in bulkhead in Atlanta?

Move away from Missouri City/Sugar Land. Really nice areas but they are divided on what you want. Tons of diversity on everyone else but in SL not many black people. The black people tend to live a zip code over in Missouri City.

Elsewhere in Houston metro it's decently to pretty evenly dispersed.

When I was younger, my parents lived in the hood in order to have money to send us to private school. And we weren't the only family on my block that did that.

Yes, people self segregate everywhere in the world - it seems to be a universal instinct. The northeast is arguably worse than the south about this. Up there, not only do the whites and blacks live in separate areas but there are still neighborhoods and churches for Irish, Polish, Italian, etc.

As to your question, Sugar Land has a lot of whites and various categories of Asians (i.e. Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, etc.). Missouri City is mostly white and black (with a plurality of blacks). SL is probably a bit more integrated than MC, from what I can tell, but the different ethnic groups still tend to clump around each other.

Sugar Land/Missouri City is as diverse as you are going to find any place that is not on the East or West Coast.
Any other place is just fighting for 2nd place

When I checked MC's demographics, it was pretty diverse.

You are right - MC is 25% white, 42% black, 16.2% Asian and 15% hispanic. I didn't realize how large the Asian population actually is in MC; they aren't nearly as prominent as the Asian population in Sugar Land, which is almost 34%.

My guess would be most of the Asian population in MC is clustered over by Beltway 8, but that's speculation on my part. There's a mini Asia town over there and in Westchase, so they might not mingle in as much of MC proper as the Asian folks in SL do.
