I lived in Kingwood for about 6 years. I lived in the Mills Branch subdivision and loved it! You can find a nice 3 bedroom house in that neighborhood. It supposedly has some nice schools, and I loved being close to all of the green belts.

Hi Dickelfan,

What is the public transportation in Kingwood? Do the houses in Kingwood comes with garages and swimming pool? If I have a budget of $200K will it be enough to purchase at least 3bd room house w/ pool and 2 car garages and build after year 2000?. How far is Kingwood if I work in downtown by car? How is the schooling system in Kingwood compare to Katy? What about shopping center/Mall?

Most of the houses in Kingwood were built in the late 70s early 80s. You can not buy a house newer than 2000 for 200k that I am aware of. They are about to build a new neighborhood in Kingwood, the last one that will be built. I believe starting price is 220k for cheapest model. For 200k you can get a nice older house with a 2 car garage and maybe a pool. Kingwood is 35 -50 minutes by car depending on traffic, you can make it in 25 minutes with 0 traffic. Kingwood also has a park and ride where you can take the bus downtown from the middle of Kingwood. there is no mall in Kingwood but there is one in Humble which is a 5 minute drive. Kingwood has well rated schools, I would guess comparable to south Katy.

Kingwood sounds great. Do they have a downtown area or is it all residential ? Also, I would like to be able to be in a walkable neighborhood (sidewalks, and able to walk to stores, or restaurants). Do they have this there ?

Kingwood is a suburb it is residential with a few small office parks. In the center is a Town Center which is shopping and restaurants. Kingwood has tons of sidewalks and all neighborhoods are connected by the green belt trails but this is still suburbia and you need a car to live like anywhere else in Houston.

Kingwood is a jewel in the piney woods NE of Houston. Great schools, lots of family stuff and strong sense of community. It is a rustic looking area compared to the more tailored look of the woods in The Woodlands. Less shopping and retial activity than TW also but a great neighborhood to live.

Some very good golf courses with lake views are where I spent most of my time in KW. Not a bad commute to DT either.
