We are planning to move to Houstin in the near future and I am wondring how worried should I be about the roaches, scorpions, and other bugs. Do you find them in the highrises as well?

We're infested. They are all over the place. If you have small children you need be worried about bugs carrying them away.

Sorry, these bug posts always crack me up. It reminds me of when I would travel abroad growing up in Chicago and run into people who were convinced that Chicago was full of guys like Al Capone and surely I must have to dodge mob bullets every day on my way to school.

You know they invented this wonderful thing call pest control, last time I checked it worked wonders.

Anyways we have bugs just like any other city out there, yes we live in a warmer climate so just like any city in the south we may have a tad bit more of certain bugs like mosquitoes but not nearly as bad a Florida. Never seen a scorpion in Houston. It is not like living in Arizona and dealing with black widows and scorpion infestations but still you just call a pest control company.

Bugs, especially mosquito are part of life here. You won't be able to get out of your yard and enjoy your garden without being bitten by mosquito, unless you spray your yard with mosquito control stuff.

I can't stand roaches. I found one in my kitchen this morning and see one once every two weeks or so. I live in an apartment. I want to get away from them.

Part of it is apartment living and there's nothing you can do about who you share walls with... even so, I still see them occasionally in my house. Every few months the cat hunts one down and leaves it out for me, which is nice. However, now we're dealing with a flea outbreak, despite the cat being an indoor cat. I'd rather have the occasional roach than fleas in the house.

We moved from the UK so have had to get used to the bugs. For me the mozzies are the biggest nuisance as they bite, but we also get june bugs, crickets, love bugs, mud daubers, crane flies, and this year there seem to be a lot more wasps but even the wasps seem too lazy to bother us. Ants in the yard and a couple of times they have made it in the house. I haven't really had a spider problem, one or two maybe, have never had a roach in the house but have seen a couple when outdoors, have never seen a scorpion, I have seen two snakes in the yard. We have a quarterly pest control service who inject the tubes in our house with insecticide, spray the outside perimeter, knock down wasp homes and treat any any hills. I use the off clip on repellent or bug spray if I go to a park or plan to spend any time outdoors.

Luckily, due to the drought, the amount of roach sightings seems to have dropped significantly.. at least for me.

I went to my grandma's house over the weekend and she has some huge bees and wasp everywhere. She likes them though. Roaches have been scarce this year and I'm cool with that...
