Do you drink the tap water? I always drank tap water until moving to Houston. I noticed too much variation in taste/color from one month to the next with the tap water. Happened in 2 different places I lived. Seems like I hear a lot of "I never drink tap water" from people. Is this common?

Our water sucks. If it doesn't have a strong smell of bleach to it it's yellow.

I use a Brita Filter. Sometimes I wonder if I'm wasting money buying them.

Drinking? Bottle only. I don't really like the taste of our fridge filtered water. Or I'm just conditioned to bottle.

Cooking, coffee/tea, etc is always tap though.

I drink both bottled and tap. I always order water in restaurants, which means you are getting tap. Sometimes you just can't win. A friend's Dad just went through cancer and the doctors at MD Anderson told the family that they should NEVER drink out of plastic bottles. So the tap is bad for you and so is a plastic bottle. I had a Brita on the faucet at one time - that thing was too large and got in the way, so we removed it.

I hate the water here. I hate cooking with it, I boil it for a while with salt, and never drink it.

I drink tap water directly. Too lazy for the Brita (we only use it for the baby now) and bottled water has its own issues, such as the aforementioned possible carcinogens in the plastic and the huge amount of waste. And I'm cheap so that's the other reason I drink tap. I actually like the taste. I think the worst tap water I ever had was in Orlando, FL. It's the one time where I absolutely refused to drink the water; smelled awful, tasted worse.

Fill a cup of water from the tap, now look in it. Looks like outer space with all the little dots and spots of "stuff."

I cook with tap water, but I make my drinks ( tea, coffee, juices etc. ) with bottled water. I also drink only bottled water.
Annie is right... the water looks, taste and smell funny, and my tea has a "rainbow" film on the top. It doesn't look like dark amber just grayish brown. Nasty!!

We have a reverse osmosis filter system for our drinking water at home. We use it for making coffee and some cooking as well.
