Hi, I'm going on a business trip to Houston and was trying to decide if I should rent a car or just use a taxi. I will only be there one day and will mainly just be traveling from the airport (George Bush) to North Houston (near I-610) and back. How reliable is taxi service in Houston (i.e. how long do you typically have to wait after calling a cab)? Thanks.

Taxi service is reliable as long as you call well ahead of the time you need to be picked up. No use renting a car for just one day.

Private service is the best way to go. Taxis are very unreliable here. Rental car would perhaps be the most inexpensive and reliable transportation that you could get, but I would only suggest it if you're familiar with the city and know your way around.
