Hello-
Can someone advise what is better to sign up a 12 month contract or no contract for electric service? Would the electric bill be cheaper or same each month? My house is going to be about 2100sq. Also please tell me about water service?

Thanks for all your help!

If you can remember to sign up for a new contract every month, its usually cheaper to go month to month...however, they'll gouge you if you forget.

The cheapest price I've seen lately is 11 cents per kw/hr (which isn't cheap compared to other parts of Texas and surrounding states that are still regulated - we're getting hosed).

Look for the 3-4 month contracts.

PS - the prices tend to drop during Fall and Winter so I'd hold off on that 1-year contract.

Here's a helpful site for selecting the best rates on your electric company (billing agency):

How do you choose? Does the billing agency have any relationship to how good the service is, how frequent power drops, or something?
Are your lines still serviced by a single power company?

Now, I keep hearing how expensive Texas utilities are, so

Just for kicks, I averaged price per kWh for me over last 12 months (I'm in Orange County California, using S.C.Edison, your only choice)

My house (1390 sq ft, no AC, no pool pump, single refrigerator) is averaging .15 per kWh.
So, I guess Texas is cheaper for me.
Something to look forward to!

Now if I could just get the kids to turn lights off when they leave a room...

Cool M.U.D. Slide (taxes)

M.U.D. taxes are a new concept to me (in Virginia). Is it based on water
or electrical usage ... or something else? Does M.U.D. account for any
service (such as refuse removal) or is it a pure tax for putting in the water
conduits, electrical service, etc? Since the real estate listings for the
Woodlands do not list M.U.D. taxes (unless it's lumped in with "annual taxes"),
what's a rough way to estimate? Thanks.
