Epic fail? Please homie, if you think arguing about neighborhoods on city data is considered an epic fail, then you have a pretty warped and distorted reality.

Just because other people do it doesn't mean it's right. Remember "all men are created equal". You're no better than the hoodrat from kashmere gardens.

I didn't bother reading the back and forth, but CREATED is the key term here. Men differentiate themselves very quickly.

Besides traffic and humidity, Houston negatives also include: excessive heat, pollution, increased sprawl/concrete/"Temples of Man" (forget natural beauty and scenery), increasing pace / rat race lifestyle, increasing "diversity" (mostly thanks to south of the border), Wal-Mart / Made in China heaven, just to name a few. Yeah, it's a great place Some people love it though

Ive only been in the inner loop for a couple months but exploring around during my free time I am beginning to notice this more and more. The white suburb and integrated city stereotype thing does not apply to Houston AT ALL. Its amazing what some people my age in this Inner Loop actually believe.

Sorry, but Bakersfield? Between the worse pollution, less opportunity and many fewer amenities (it's not the same tier of city as Houston) I don't think it would even be a consideration unless you have family or connections there.

We currently live in Bakersfield (20+ years now), after having grown up in Houston.

We are considering moving back to Texas (though not Houston).

Bakersfield is a town of 300,000. We have a wonderfully long spring, with temps in the 70's and all the windows open. We turn on the AC around May but it doesn't usually run all day; you can actually keep the AC on 79 degrees all summer long and it's comfortable.

July and August are the hottest months, and temps can get over 100 deg. But, I would take 106 deg in Bako over 95 deg in Houston any day. We actually didn't have too many days this summer over 100. Today the high will be 80's, low in the 50's. Winters are a mild cold.

It's a 2 hr drive from Bakersfield to the 'coast' (meaning Pismo, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara). California has some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. Snow skiing is about an hour or so east. LA is almost 2 hrs south.

Restaurants do not even compare to what's available in Houston. I remember back in the 80's complaining as to where we were going to eat after church in Houston. We were so naive....

Housing in Bakersfield is probably the most affordable in the state. We had one of the highest foreclosure rates in the US; home prices have been dropping and I would say is comparable to Houston.

Locally grown produce is awesome. Most people have a variety of fruit trees in their backyard; lots of farmers markets too.

So why would I move back to Texas? The idiots who run the state are driving it into the ground. We are BROKE. Lots of illegals here who are draining the system. A business climate that makes it nearly impossible to do business in this state. State income tax. $4 per gallon gas. Environmental wackos who care more about protecting a tiny fish than supplying farmers with water they need to grow food for the rest of us.
