I have to say that for being a city in Texas our BBQ scene is seriously lacking.

I love ribs and brisket (brisket without the sauce so you can taste how good the meat is.) Up until last weekend when I tried Rudy's (originally from the hill country), I thought the only time I could indulge in tasty BBQ was when I went to the hill country or Dallas. Now I'm not saying give Rudy's a medal or anything but Pappa's cant hold a candle if you know what I mean.

Am I missing something here or is Rudy's the best BBQ we can find in Houston?

it varies....the Rudy's in Austin is different from what I've tried in Houston

The ribs tasted like most with the brisket being the only difference

The BBQ around here is seriously lacking.

I find that TX BBQ doesn't do it for me like BBQ in the SE. It is strictly a matter of taste however and I did enjoy my meal at the Salt Lick in Driftwood.

Gatlins BBQ in the Heights area is by far my favorite brisket.

Very similar to the central texas style that I love.

I wonder if it has to do with Houston being the least Texan city.

Ditto on the Salt Lick.. We liked it better when the Mom and Dad we still running it. It is getting too uptown. Did he put glass in the windows?

I agree that the BBQ scene is pretty awful. Now that I am older, I look for different places to try BBQ, but nothing ever pops up. I usually just head on over to Triple J's. They have some really good BBQ there, and the Boudin is my absolute favorite.
