I was driving I-10 east from downtown the past couple of days and it got me to wondering - are there any desirable and safe areas to live in at all along that area or is it all industrial? I am not interested in moving that way but am curious if there are nice areas out there that I am unaware of.

Default Yes there are many

Wallisville near Beltway 8 and I- 10. also there is an area north of Channelview that is also just fine and actually a little expensive, The areas north of I-10 but south of the 90. OIf course if you go further north you have south lake houston area, Humble. I mean there are a lot of areas on the East side that are desirable.

Yeah, there are many places. Baytown has some nice neighborhoods, and Mont Beliveu is another nice area with a great school system. There are many ranch-style homes/neighborhoods near there.

How far east of downtown? Eastwood (inside the loop) is turning around fast. I live a few miles north of downtown, but wait for someone east to chime in... Eastwood is def worth looking into.

anything between downtown and the beltway is pretty much a mix of lower residential communities and industrial areas.....just off of beltwy 8 and I-10, where the north shore and channelview areas meet, there are some nice middle class neighborhoods there.....further down 1-10, the new areas of Baytown and Mont Belvieu are intriguing, but a bunch of major refineries are located nearby also

Eastwood isn't really I-10 east, it is more off the Gulf Freeway.

Way way out in Chambers County there are nice neighborhoods scattered all over the place. Cove, Beach City, Mont Belvieu, the eastern edge of Baytown, etc. However it is exurb style all the way, no real amenities worth mentioning except for donuts & liquor. And there are oil/gas/chemical plants everywhere; you may even see a mini-flare in what looks like someone's yard. Check into the schools carefully and don't take anyone's word that they are "good". Going far enough east, the Trinity River flood plain has a lot of poverty and a stone's throw into Liberty County they shoot & kill elementary school kids who are playing outside at night.
