I find the best time to go any of these kind of places is 5 to 10 minutes before they close. Why? The employees aren't looking to do OT so they want out ASAP and they'll do whatever it takes to get everyone out. they're misery = your advantage.

I live in Katy and went to the one in Columbus. There were 4-5 people in there and I heard someone mention that this was the most they usually ever have at once. A funny thing I noticed was some Katy and Cinco Ranch decals on the cars in the parking lot. Welcome to the new Katy DPS office.

Also someone said they want to go to Sealy. Good luck, that one's closed too.

If I tell you, I'd have to kill you along with everyone here . Otherwise, it would no longer be a fast time and short line DPS place for me next time I need it.

Then again, if I don't tell you, I'd be selfish . Hum... what to do... to tell or not to tell...

I'll second the suggestion of Columbus if you live in Katy ... just don't go when I do, okay?

Seriously they all bite. But at the most I have waited around an hour -- just seems like an eternity. Th e drive to/from Columbus will burn more of your time but not not feel that way because at least you are moving.

My sister went to the 1601 Townhurst DPS office to renew her license and waited in line for over five hours. After hearing that, I was going to go to the Columbus location -- but wondered if spending all that time and gas on the road would really be better than waiting in line.

Then someone who drives people to DPS offices (and other places) for a living told me that the day and time are very important. My sister had gone at lunchtime on a Monday. I went to the Townhurst location at 2:00 PM on a Friday and was in and out in only 20 minutes.

I can tell you of the 2 I have experience with (I've been to both on multiple occasions).

The one on Chimney Rock is terrrrible; long lines, slow customer service, and then once you get to the front of the line, you get to deal with the employees' ****ty attitudes.

The one off of I-10 and the beltway has a smaller interior thus making it a relatively shorter line. It does have a lot of ppl, but the employees move the line quickly and efficiently, and I didn't encounter any bad attitudes.

That's true, newtohouston -- but you can renew your license through the internet only once (six years after you go in person). Then you have to go in person again.
