I'd check the specifics for the actual house or neighborhood. No one in my neighborhood has made much noise about their insurance going up over the past years.

I live in Dickinson (Galveston County) and I think my wind insurance alone is that much.

I believe Houston / Harris County has all HO insurance rolled into one, except for flood of course.

As far as no zoning goes, I think there is at least one daycare near a tattoo parlor and 3 bars on Sea Lark Rd. I think there is also a mosque in the mix there, called an "education center". Along with a DIY dog washing facility and hair salon that have been there forever.

I know that area well - it's near where I live. It's really a small area though, and not very significant. I've haven't see any negative effects from those businesses, whether directly in front of them, or away from them. That area is also separated from the neighborhood by a bayou. I really consider this to be trivial and not worth mentioning.

This is the wrong area for your post. Port Lavaca is nowhere near Clear Lake. Maybe the Texas (statewide) forum...

Port LaVaca is about 150 miles down the coast from Clear Lake. You seriously bought property in another state, sight unseen, and not even knowing where it was?

Forgive me for continuing this tangent, but in addition to buying sight unseen, Lavaca Bay had some issues with mercury pollution from that huge chemical plant in Point Comfort. If the property was unusually cheap, then this is probably why
