Hi everybody! I am new to this forum and really excited about our move to Houston in the next couple months.

I am pregnant with a baby girl and am a bit worried about how our name choice will be received by the average Houstonian (weird looks from parents, school bullying etc). I currently live in Dallas and am not nearly as concerned about it here as this is a much more cosmopolitan city and atmosphere than Houston.

The name is Clementine. I'm hoping that some of you have school aged children that can help me out here? Or people who are generally familiar with the Houston culture. Would this name really stand out in Houston? We are going to be moving to Sugarland if that helps at all!

I appreciate any and all feedback, Thank yall so much!

Strange that you think there would be such a difference between Dallas and Houston. Really you have no worries and why would you let where you live dictate what you name your baby? It is a lovely name and if you want to name your child that than just name her that.

That name won't stand out at all. I have actually heard it before.

However I am not so sure about your Dallas vs Houston assumption. You realize Houston is one of the most international, diverse, and integrated cities in the country, so Houston is probably way more cosmopolitan than you think. More so than Dallas in some of those categories, too.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my Dallas/Houston comparison- that was not my intention! I admit I haven't spent much time (hardly at all) in Houston and all I meant was that Houston tends to have a more laid back feel where as Dallas is a bit more "posh"- similar to cities like LA where a name like Clementine is fairly common. The name tends to be considered "hipster" but is a family name for me

Again so sorry if I offended anyone but please lets not derail the thread, or at least answer the question first before you do

First of all, I like your choice of names. It's cute and you won't have to worry about another kid in her class having the same name. Of course you'll never find her name on any souvenir gift shop trinkets, either.

You won't have any different issues here than you would anywhere else. In fact, living in Sugar Land with the huge foreign poplulation, you're probably better off because of the diverse range of names.

Of course I'm assuming that your ultrasound was correct. If you end up having a boy, I'd suggest you reconsider the name.

Well, in Houston, the ladies who lunch do not change their jewelry 4 times a day.

^^^ DITTO
Why are you concerned about what other people think about your baby name???
I don't think that "average Houstonian" cares about anyone's name...
It is your choice, and if you think it is inappropriate, then change it - the baby is not born yet.
I heard that name and think is pretty...
