Hi folks, my wife is considering taking a job down there, which may give me the opportunity to return to acting full time. I'm wondering what sorts of opportunities there are for a jack-of-all-trades sort of actor? Paid theater? TV? Commercials? Film? Voiceover? Improv?

Could an attractive, talented middle aged actor manage to make enough not to be a burden on his wife down there?

Thanks!

Default Slim pickings...

As the previous poster said, not many studios in Houston. However, there is Theatre Under The Stars, and some others that I cannot think of right now. Someone more in tune with the performing arts scene should be able to help you.

You probably won't turn a full time gig of it. Then again, not everyone in LA does that either.

I had some child actor friends growing up here, they did local Astroworld, Joskey's, (wooo I'm old) and Blue Bell TV ads. They are both now in NYC doing small time movies & Broadway bits...........

Don't think there's a big acting market here.

Sorta off topic: What ever happened to the Astrodome turning into a big studio deal?

TUTS imports most of their actors. All the big stage production groups do. Where you might find work here is with bit parts, local commercials and the occasional Hollywood production blowing through town. I doubt it would even come close to preventing you from being a "burden" on your wife though. Hopefully you've developed other skills other than acting that may be marketable here.

I signed up for this thing where they cast people for Disney Channel. I didn't think it was real til I signed up and looked them up. However, acting isn't something I want to pursue.

When do we get to see your big debut as a backup dancer for Hannah Montana?
