Was anyone in Eastwood for Allison? How much flooding happened there?

Idylwood is beautiful. My dad is buried at the cemetary over at Forest Park Lawndale and everytime I went to visit, I was impressed with that surprisingly beautiful, oddly hilly neighborhood in an area I thought was supposed to be a ghetto. That neighborhood has been taken pretty good care of over the years. Of course, the whole area will be gentrified sometime and those who got in early will reap the benefits.

Yes, Idylwood is absolutely beautiful. No real transitional neighborhood factors to contend with.

great houses. I always liked this rare deco number in there.

It flooded just above the sidewalk. I didn't see any houses get flooded. A lot of older houses in and around Eastwood are built about 2 feet above ground level with a crawl space.

I used to own a home in Idylwood and can attest that it is a great place to live, someplace where you really do get to know all of your neighbors. During Allison, a few homes along MacGregor flooded, but with the bayou improvements going in, that should be a thing of the past.

Good to hear. Allison left me marooned on a parking lot....at least I was used to sleeping in my car at the time.

These pictures make me want to go for a drive out Eastwood way...Houston doesn't need tourists when Houstonians can be tourists themselves

A friend of mine practically swam home... on 288. He had to abandon his car on the freeway-c u m-bayou. I watched the front yard turn into a rice paddy, sans rice. And I was only in town visiting. Fun times.

Bingo. Beautiful pictures. I think I'll head over that way myself this weekend. Reminds me of why I love this city. It defies logic. Repeatedly.

The intra-city "tourism" is one thing that is so often ignored on the light rail topic - I look forward to taking an afternoon stroll around Eastwood, then hitting the clubs in (take your pick - Downtown, Montrose, Midtown, Uptown/Richmond) without ever having to worry about parking or how you're going to get home because you're thrashed.

I would encourage anyone that is into old houses to be a "weekend tourist" & check out these east end areas. People who have never been over there generally have no idea about places like Idylwood...

Or Eastwood

or Glenbrook Valley

Ya'll come on by Eastwood! I'll be either a) working in the yard or b) enjoying an adult beverage on the porch. We do that a lot here.

Hey is that Glenbrook Valley? There are some sweet homes out there. We played urban tourist when we were house shopping, unfortunately none that met our needs at the time. . Love those MCMs!
