I would stay away from Humble, New Caney, Huffman or Porter. Humble is dangerous (there are 3 different police officers who live on my street who work for the Humble Police Department - you wouldn't believe the stories they've told me.) I couldn't tell you how safe New Caney, Porter or Huffman are, but they aren't very attractive towns (they have many trailer parks and run-down homes.)
Eagle Springs is great! We are so hoping to buy back in there at the end of next month! We miss home! Summerwood is nice and has lovely homes but to us it is just missing something. Not sure what that something is but just something. We built in ES 8 years ago with our first home and when the community was brand new. We watched it grow and flourish and were very sad to leave the area 2 yrs ago. It is a great place to raise your children and so many things to do with them.

Instead of making a new thread I would ask my questions here. I have been looking around this area and stopped by Fall Creek 2 days ago and loved it. I really liked the location and its not to far from my job in downtown and really close to the park and ride that I would use. Now I have not been to Summerwood or Sunset Ridge. I have been thinking about checking these areas out soon. If anyone has more opinions in these areas it would be much appreciated.

Sunset Ridge is not the quality of Summerwood or Fall Creek. Apples and oranges there.

If you loved Fall Creek, then you need to look around and compare it to Summerwood and Eagle Springs. Those are really the only other neighborhoods that rival Fall Creek. Now some would argue that there's Canyon Lakes (right across from Fall Creek). Feel free to look there, but I would never suggest that to be a place to live. It's WAY to close to the land fill (within a mile and closer as the crow flies!!), and it backs up to a well established trailer park. I have no idea how the people who live there think that will in any way enhance their property values. Fall Creek is close to the land fill, but it at least has the Shell Open to give it more value!!

I personally LOVE Eagle Springs and would live there in a heartbeat!! I currently live in Walden on Lake Houston, and while I love my house, the community is just okay for me.

I agree with a pp who said Summerwood is nice, but that something is missing. I don't know what it is either! They have beautiful homes, great ammenities, ponds where you can feed ducks, etc. But when I drive through (which is often), it just doesn't feel like "home". Now I totally get that feeling when I drive through Eagle Springs. And you may get that feeling when you are in Fall Creek.

I have no idea what you are looking for an a house, and what not. There is another really nice, albeit expensive, neighborhood just north of Summerwood called Summer Lake Ranch. But those are going to run you $400,000+ but have fabulous lots and houses!!

Thanks for the info lhafer. I have a friend who lives out in Eagle Springs and the drive seemed a little to far out for me. I work in downtown and want to be as close as possible w/o living in the hood. My wife to be works off of 59 not to far from the beltway. My budget is around 200k. Its just going to be me and the wife and do not need a large house.

Yes, you have a few more stop lights ect. to get to Eagle Springs. But it's a lot closer to grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and stuff like that. I drive through Eagle Springs every single day to get to work (I work in the medical center). It's about an extra 10 minutes or so of a commute, maybe 15 if you are leaving right at 7 or 7:30am (I usually leave my house around 6:30, and leave the day care around 6:45am) to get to the beltway or 59. I usually take Atascocita Road. I find that unless I leave super early, Will Clayton to 59 gets back up. I hope they widen it and that will help a lot.

I personally take the beltway to the Hardy Toll road into work in the mornings. I find it's a lot faster than 59 for morning rush hour. It costs $1.50 to get on. There's one toll right when you get on from the beltway. I can leave my house in Walden, drop my daughter off at day care in Eagle Springs, and be in downtown in ~35-40 minutes going this way. It takes me about an hour to get to work in the mornings because it's another 15-20 minutes to the med center going through downtown.

I take 59 home in the evenings. Takes me about 40-50 minutes to get to Eagle Springs, leaving at 4 or 4:30pm. Closer to an hour if I leave around 5pm.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Fall Creek's HOA fees are about double what Eagle Springs and Summerwood's are. Fall Creek is ~$1500/yr. Eagle Springs and Summerwood run ~$700/year or so. If that makes a difference. They basically all have the same amenities. But you have to pay more in Fall Creek due to the golf course.

I live in Fall Creek and our HOA's are $900/yr. I think the gated section with the million $$ homes is $1500. We chose Fall Creek for the great commute and are happy because of it. The shopping and amenities are coming and it's getting better. We decided that the daily commute downtown out weighed the occassional trip to restaurants or stores out towards Atascacita. (We preferred the better commute to be where we would be drivig most often.)

Fall Creek, Eagle Springs and Summerwood are all great. I don't think you could go wrong at any of them. I would agree that Sunset Ridge, and Canyon Lakes are not the caliber of the communities mentioned above. (Not bad - just not as nice)

Let me know if you have any specific questions about FC. Good luck in your home search. ~K~

IMO - I would steer clear of any neighborhood that is located immediately off of a major highway - easy access makes it easier for problems to drive in who may or may not live there. If you are working in Deer Park - have you considered Deer Park, Seabrook or Clear Lake. Of course these areas will put you in an evacuation zone in the event of a major hurricane. Doesn't necessarily mean you'll flood - many neighborhoods in these areas had no problems during Ike while others were hit hard. You'd have to do your research. Deer Park is closer to industry than the areas you are currently looking in but remains a good place to live with good schools. Seabrook and Clear Lake go to Clear Creek Independent School District which is a better school district.

Thanks everyone for there input. As for looking in Deer Park, Seabrook etc. that is not something we are looking into. Location is a top priority for us as my fiance works off of 59N and I will commute to downtown. If everything goes fine tomorrow we will be getting a house built in Fall Creek. Wish me luck.
