How would you rate Houston's nightlife? If so, how would to improve the nightlife and its options?

I rated 8. There is a big amount of club, bars and lounges for any taste. The only thing i do not like is the way some of our nightlife areas are. While you can bar hop, sometimes they are separated by a couple blocks of "stuff". Something comparable to Austin's 6th street or whatever number it is, would be more desired.

I have to break it down:

Variety: 7
Centralization: 5
Vibrancy: 6
Overall: 6

The nightlife isn't bad, but it could be much better. I could see how someone could come here and saw Houston's nightlife sucks because it's very disorganized and sprawled all over the city. The Hip Hop Scene though is probably one the best you'll find the country though; easily top 10 if not top 5.

I've always heard about Houston's great AA nightlife. The other scenes must be the ones that give Houston it's reputation?

I gave it a 7.

The bars & clubs are way too spread out.

Someone who frequents the nightlife on 1960 might have never in their life been to Midtown or Rice Village.

However, is Houston's "spreaded out" nightlife a good thing or a bad thing?

I just like the different environments. I don't see the geographic spread as a disadvantage. I'd get sick of going to the same centralized, urban format all the time.

Every type of layout from intimate grid villages, pedestrian corridors, Gulf-side patio shacks, urban sidewalks, neo-uptown type centers, odd post-1940s party shacks in the Heights, off beat Montrose backstreet pubs and such is represented in Houston. From downtown to the Montrose to City Centre to Rice Village to Washington Ave to Kemah Lighthouse District and more. That's what I freakin' like!

I like having stuff all around, people moving around. I've been in Clearwater, FL the past week...and it's like dead here. Go to the only really interesting outpost of nightlife in North Pinellas County...downtown Dunedin, FL. Or drive 17 to 20 miles to some places in Tampa or St. Petersburg.

Houston is vibrant, full of spots to go to, whether in the party centers, or up and down Richmond Ave to Westheimer.

I give an 8 just for that. 2:00am shutdown is rather early but then again Houston is not an all-out entertainment industry city. But for overall variety...Houston is pretty dang good with nightlife.

Why do clubs close that early?
