So, we're new to Houston. We like it here so far, especially since the house we're renting has a pool....

My question is, when does it get warm enough to start using it in a typical year?

Is it heated or unheated?

HA HA HA HA! If heated, whenever you want. If not heated, whenever you want. It is your preference. I never get into a pool or ocean unless it is 85-100 degrees. I have friends come from colder climates who think that 65 degrees is "roasting" and they think swimming is okay then (while I wear a light sweater). I laugh at that, depends on how you are acclimatized.

April to May, and usually by October it's cool enough that I can only be in the pool in the hottest part of the day, unless it's a heated pool of course.

I'm always cold. The water is comfortable when the night time temperature reaches 70. This year it was late, mid May. We used the pool until Thanksgiving. We no longer heat it.

People from cold climates are idiots. They don't seem to realize that you can get hypothermia in 75F water.
