Is this thing really close to the beach? I remember reading that it was 20 miles from Galveston. If this is so, maybe it will boost up tourism. I don't know why some of you are so negative.

Since this is getting kicked around again, I thought this was interesting reading.
What Outlet Malls Don't Want You to Know on Shine

Quote:
Outlet malls are notorious for being located in out-of-the-way suburbs and off deserted interstate highways. One big advantage of the remote location is a psychological effect called the “sunk cost fallacy,” ... customers invest serious amounts of time and energy; it’d be a pity if they didn’t leave with something. Customers don’t like to feel like they made a bad investment, and making purchases justifies all that effort.
And once they figure out it's not worth the drive, they'll quit going, and Texas City will have even more dead retail space than before.

This outlet mall may be very successful. Come on y'all, give it a chance.

The put up a 'future development' sign, if that means anything. We were going to Galveston a few weeks ago and the gf went berserk when she found out there may be a real outlet mall near us. I tried to floor it, but the damage had already been done.

The clearing and prepping of the land has been going on for a few months now. Last time I was by which was before Christmas it looked like they were marking the areas for the roads. Hard to tell while driving by at 70mph.

What concerns me is the area it is in. The old outlet and the dead mall of mainland are at the next highway exit. Why do they think this mall would succeed when the others less than a mile down the road didnt?

They should have moved it closer to webster

Any thoughts?
I think it is a bad decision and will not fare well. There already exists an outlet mall in La Mqrque, right down the road from Texas City on I-45 South. Why build another one? Also, this one seems small and will not compare to the other ones in Texas such as the one in San Marcos.
