I am a chemist who wants to change careers and become a science teacher..I just started my research on the alternative certifications programs and found too many and i cant tell which is better..does anyone have any experience or advice? ..HELP.. please! i read a few depressing posts here and all not favoring the alternative route..also it looks like these programs sell false hopes of guaranteed intership teaching positions..where is the truth? is it really impossible to get a job?? let me know what you all think!

How sure are you that you want to teach?

Salaries will be lower than your current salary as a chemist, probably
Respect for you will be lacking
Depending upon where you teach, the job can be terrible or great.

What age do you intend to teach? Do you have any experience working with kids in that age group? What do you know about child and adolescent development?

Talk to the people at Region 4 Education Service Center off of 290 and Hollister. There are many programs out there at various prices and double check to make sure they are accredited with the state of Texas.

I have heard about Texas Teachers (www.texasteachers.org) and many good things about their program. Cannot tell about the job side, depends on which ISD you are applying for. I myself have aquestion - anyone knows which school district in sponsors work (H-1B) visa for internationals seeking teaching jobs ?

Thanks... I looked at Harmony website at Harmony Science Academy, Harmony Public Schools, Cosmos Foundation

Does it run from Grades 6 thru 12 only at the Braeswood Location (the only one in Houston?) ... I was interested in an elementary school job (EC-6) in any ISD ... any ideas for prospects for internationals?
