So I'm living in San Antonio, but a lot of international flights are significantly cheaper and shorter from IAH than from San Antonio. Naturally, it's a great choice for me to take the train or the bus to downtown Houston and then find public transportation to IAH. The problem is....what public transportation? How can I get from downtown to IAH on the cheap?

Sorry about being ignorant, and I HAVE been searching online, but I felt it better to ask you natives!

Hope y'all have a great day!

There are Metro Buses for $15 non-stop from the little terminal maybe just 2-3 blocks north of Greyhound. However, go to www.ridemetro.org and see if the regular limited bus (but WILL have maybe 10-12 stops) is running at the time you arrive/leave IAH. It's a real bargain for $1.50 , yeah... one tenth. However it will take you probably an hour to hour and a half instead of 40 minutes or so on the non-stop express bus.
