I'm mostly interested in average-type bills but it would be educational to hear of any horror stories out there, and the reasons that these bills came about.

Methinks your lawn will be getting a free drink all week.

You buy a big yard, you get a bigger water bill.

you let sprinkler valves leak, you get a big water bill.

you have teenage shower hounds, you get a big bill.

The intake pipe breaks, you have a big bill.

The pool needs filling, you get a big bill.

There's a drought, you get a big bill.

You live in a MUD, you get a big tax.

There's really no mystery.

I have a lawn and a pool. I don't think I've ever paid more than $85 and that was last year during a pretty bad drought. It averages about $40.

I never water my lawn. I think it's a pointless waste of money.

New house, new sod (St. Augustine), requires lots of watering to get established, me, g/f, my son in a 3000 sq ft home: 1st month's water bill was $109, second month's was $85 (same number of days in cycle).

That said, I'm assuming when the lawn gets well establish, I'm looking at about $60 - $75 each month.

I finally started watering my lawn on a consistent basis last month. (Just moved here at the being of the year). Never wanted a high water bill but got tired of the grass looking somewhat yellow. Mine was $80 this month watering every other day. Now that should be gradually going down to my normal bill of about $50 a month since the temps will be dropping gradually.

Good luck with that cracked slab foundation!

I don't really care about keeping my lawn green. I water to keep the soil from drying up and pulling away from the slab. If you allow the clay based soil that we have in this area, to dry up repeatedly year after year- you will be paying for foundation repair down the road.

I have to chuckle at these utilities cost threads. They always end up being "neener neener" contests like "neener neener mine's lower than yours!". I always enjoyed that thread a while back where some dude said his light bill was $85 per month for a 3500 sq/ft home and he keeps his thermostats at 74. LOL Whatever. I always pictured a 16 gauge extension cord running from his neighbor's house to his.

Just sayin'...

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Houston isn't Phoenix. It gets more rain than Seattle.
