Hello!

What is a typical commute like from the Clear Lake area to downtown Houston for someone who needs to be downtown around 6:30am-7am and leaves around 4:30pm-5pm. What kind of a drive is it on a normal day? Rainy day?

What about if you take the Metro bus or HOV lane?

Thanks in advance!

Hell when you get off work. Going to work will be a breeze. It gets horrible around 45 and Beltway 8. Not to mention 45 downtown.

A friend from work was re-assigned for a while to downtown (I'm in Clear Lake) and took the bus. He took the park and ride and was satisfied with that. He took his laptop and made use of his commute time.

Where in Clear Lake - near Clear Lake City Blvd. or deeper into Clear Lake where you hit more lights. If near Clear Lake City Boulevard about 35 mins in the morning at that time. In the afternoon - hit or miss so maybe 45-50 mins. - In the afternoons, I average 17 mins from downtown to 610, another 17 from 610 to BW8 and another 17 to exit at Bay Area Blvd. or Nasa Rd. 1.

Last time I ran Municipal court to Clear Lake City Blvd (home) it was 40 minutes during afternoon rush-hour, door to door.

If I leave at 6 am I can be downtown by 6:30. Anytime after 6am and traffic builds fast.

Off peak/weekends it's about 20-25 minutes.

The Bay Area Park and Ride bus takes 30-35 minutes to get to my stop downtown in the morning. The commute back out is probably a little closer to 40 minutes.

^^ That also reminds me- if you're on Clear Lake City Blvd the Fuqua Park & Ride (behind Carmax) is pretty good. At least that is my impression from riding it once. In the morning it took roughly 10 mins to get to there via Hwy 3/BW 8/Sabo. Then once the bus gets going, the first stop downtown takes ~15 minutes.

Can't speak for coming home, since I came back in the mid-afternoon. I do know if you exit Scarsdale, you can ride the feeder all the way to Clear Lake City Blvd with no traffic lights, and avoid the mainlanes clog.

The Bay Area Park & Ride is also pretty good. The commute to downtown around 6:30 to 7am should be a breeze like someone said earlier...And by 4:30 to 5pm, the buses usually get on the HOV lane, outbound from downtown. It should be pretty smooth sailing until you get off the HOV around the Beltway 8 area (In some instances, the HOV lane can slow down to a crawl, though). So, roughly 40 to 45 minutes to get back into Clear Lake.

If you plan on driving...Not too good around 4:30 to 5pm, as traffic is backed up all the way to the U of H area sometimes. Probably take the feeder after you pass Beltway 8, like someone suggested.
