Why haven't new ways to connect ac lines been developed?
Because the old ways work just fine.
Your way, the expensive way, would require a set of gauges, a bottle of nitrogen, a nitrogen regulator, a vacuum pump, a micron gauge, an EPA license to comply with regulations, and the ability to know if the charge is correct and if not, why. After all that, you'll void any mfg warranty.
These ac units should be designed for the average homeowner to install without hireing a technician.
What, you mean each unit should come with a vacuum pump, a set of gauges, a torch, brazing flux, a can of refrigerant, and a 12 hour certification course on the proper, safe, and environmentally sound handling of refrigerant?
Do you have even the slightest idea of what you are talking about?
I don't know what these are; I assume it's a brand name for some sort of tubing connector. Why don't you call the manufacturer's tech support line and ask them?
In general the standard for hermetic systems (stationary AC, window units, and refrigerators) is brazing/silver soldering as it is the most reliably leak tight. It isn't that difficult to learn how to do.
Shark bites no, but flares can be used. They usually aren't though, not sure why. Maybe brazing is just more reliable.
